Earlier this month, Eastland, Texas, became the 30th city throughout the state to declare itself a Sanctuary City for the Unborn.

The ordinance was unanimously passed by the City Commission, thus outlawing the practice of abortion within city limits, reports Texas Right to Life.

“Let’s speak the truth: an unborn child is a child,” City Commissioner Zac Darr said. “Once life enters the womb, that life must be protected. This ordinance prevents abortions from happening in our town. Abortion is a travesty, and it should not have been allowed to happen—ever! Here in Eastland we will not allow the killing of innocent human beings—regardless of whether those human beings are inside or outside the womb.”

“The Sanctuary City for the Unborn ordinance works simultaneously within the confines of the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, current Texas law, and the authority of individual cities to protect their residents by stepping in where the state and federal governments have failed,” the site reports.

The ordinance doesn’t penalize a woman who seeks an abortion, but holds those who profit from the murder of a child responsible, such as the abortionists and those who aid and abet in the abortion.

The Sanctuary City movement began in Texas in 2019 with the city of Waskom, followed by Ohama and Naples.

Among the 30 sanctuary cities, only Lubbock had an abortion clinic, though after the measure banning abortion was passed earlier this year, the local Planned Parenthood stopped performing abortions.

The 30 Texan cities that officially protect children are: Waskom, Naples, Joaquin, Tenaha, Gilmer, Westbrook, Rusk, Colorado City, Gary, Big Spring, Wells, Whiteface, East Mountain, New Home, Morton, Ackerly, Grapeland, Goldsmith, Carbon, Gorman, Murchison, Latexo, Lubbock, Abernathy, Poynor, Levelland, Sundown, Sterling City, Centerville, and Eastland.

Lebanon became Ohio’s first Sanctuary City for the Unborn in May. Hillsdale, Michigan, authorities are also considering adopting such a measure.
