Abortions Kill 20 Times More People Than Guns – Maria Gallagher

Every human life is precious and every preventable death a tragedy.

But unborn babies’ abortion deaths all too frequently are ignored or, worse, celebrated because so many people refuse to recognize them as valuable human beings.

Deaths from guns, meanwhile, receive a lot of attention.

A new study found that firearm deaths in the U.S. were higher than deaths from vehicle accidents for the first time, according to Bearing Arms.

In 2020, 45,222 people’s deaths were caused by guns, the report noted. That same year, an estimated 38,680 people died in vehicle accidents, according to the Department of Transportation.

CNN wrote more about the study: “In 2017, there were 1.44 million years of potential life lost due to firearm deaths, edging out that of motor vehicle crashes (1.37 million years), according to the study published Tuesday in the journal Trauma Surgery and Acute Care Open. And that trend continued in 2018.”

Pro-life advocates have a variety of views on gun rights and gun control, but they all recognize that abortions intentionally and unnecessarily destroy even more lives. For this reason, many Americans view the right to life as the preeminent human rights issue of today.

In fact, abortions kill about 20 times more human beings than guns each year.

National Right to Life estimates almost 900,000 unborn babes were aborted in 2020, based on research by the Guttmacher Institute. While abortion rates have dropped steadily since the 1990s, abortion is still the leading cause of death in America. With an estimated 886,677 babies dying in abortions and 45,222 dying in gun deaths, abortions are 19.6 times more deadly.

Since Roe v. Wade in 1973, National Right to Life estimates 63,459,781 abortions have been done in America.

These abortions did not destroy “pregnancies” or blobs of tissue or clumps of cells. They destroyed unique, living human beings – unborn babies with their own separate DNA and almost certainly a beating heart. This is basic biology, and even some abortionists admit that abortions kill human beings.

Whether from guns or abortion or another cause, every death marks the end of a unique, valuable human life that can never be replaced. And how much more tragic deaths are when they are preventable.
