The Australian government has taken a rare step to support the United States and attributed the SolarWinds cyber attack to Russia. In a statement on April 15, Foreign Minister Marise Payne, Defence Minister Peter Dutton, and Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews said that the Australian government joined with international partners to support the United States in holding Russia to account for its harmful cyber campaign against the U.S. software firm, SolarWinds. “In consultation with our partners, the Australian Government has determined that Russian state actors are actively exploiting SolarWinds and its supply chains,” the joint statement said. “Russia’s campaign has affected thousands of computer systems worldwide.
