MOSCOW, June 15. /TASS/. Russian forces delivered strikes by Kalibr cruise missiles to eliminate a depot in the Lvov Region that contained ammunition for armaments handed over by NATO countries to Ukraine, Defense Ministry Spokesman Lieutenant-General Igor Konashenkov said on Wednesday.
“Kalibr long-range high-precision missiles wiped out a depot in the area of the community of Zolochev in the Lvov Region that stored ammunition for foreign armaments handed over by NATO countries to Ukraine, including ammo for 155mm M777 howitzers,” the spokesman said.
The Kalibr (NATO reporting name: SS-N-27 Sizzler) is a Russian cruise missile developed and produced by the Yekaterinburg-based Novator Design Bureau (part of the Almaz-Antey defense manufacturer). Currently, the Russian troops are using two missile modifications: shipborne Kalibr-NK and submarine-launched Kalibr-PL missiles.
The Kalibr missile system went into service with the Russian Navy in 2012. Kalibr cruise missiles were employed for the first time during Russia’s military operation in Syria, TASS reports
