An American group that fights to protect the rights to life and worship is urging the United Nations Human Rights Council to include abortion in its campaign against the torture of children.

CeCe Heil, senior counsel for the American Center for Law and Justice, said in video testimony to the UNHRC, “Egregious and senseless violence against children is carried out on a daily basis all around the world – it is called abortion.”

She argued that whether the abortion “is carried out illegally or legally, with or without specialized medical personnel, it consists of the killing of an unborn baby, a unique and distinct human being.”

Heil’s testimony came during dialogue with the special representative of the secretary-general on violence against children.

She noted the United Nations officially states the “protection of children from all forms of violence is a fundamental right enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.”

“The inclusion of a specific target (SDG 16.2) in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to end all forms of violence against children gives renewed impetus towards the realization of the right of every child to live free from fear, neglect, abuse and exploitation,” the U.N. says.

Heil told the U.N. panel “can be no doubt that dismemberment of an innocent baby is an act of torture that should be prohibited.”

Her testimony was a summary of the organization’s previously submitted written statement.

In the statement, she noted several scientific studies indicate that the unborn baby may feel pain.

“At a minimum, if has been established that as early as 8 weeks, the [baby] responds to touch. Several U.S. states have taken legal steps to take into account this sensitivity to pain of unborn children,” she said.

“We have redoubled our efforts to fight for our pro-life agenda, including at the U.N. where we are urging the world’s leaders to put a stop to these horrific abortions,” said Heil.

President Biden, in the few short weeks he’s been in office, has reversed President Trump’s restrictions on abortion and taxpayer funding.

The ACLJ also is promoting a petition to stop U.S. tax dollars from funding abortion abroad.

More than 100,000 have signed the statement.

“President Biden and the extreme abortion lobby not only want our tax dollars to cover abortions here at home, but also want us to pay for abortions all over the world,” the petition states.

“For decades we’ve been fighting to stop Americans from being forced to pay for abortion. The Trump Administration reinstated the Mexico City Policy – now called Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance – to stop funding abortions overseas. It has been expanded to prohibit international taxpayer dollars from supporting grants, organizations, and even contractors who support, promote, or recommend abortion.”

The petition says it’s time “to defund Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry internationally.”
