“Yemen has been devastated by more than 6 years of civil war, fostered by the Saudi Arabian government and supported militarily by the United States and yet Twitter is not flooded with millions of Yemeni flags in profiles,” wrote Matt Agorist for The Free Thought Project.
Last week, The Liberty Loft reported on the longest period of bombing in Yemen since 2018.
But where are all those Yemeni flags showing support for a people decimated by an ongoing war, funded and supported by our tax dollars? Does anyone even know the colors of the Yemeni flag? It’s red, white and black.
Of course, in the meantime we’re deluged by the moral preening and lectures from the feeble-minded about Ukraine with the utterly simplistic “Putin bad, Zelenskyy good” arguments regurgitated by people who show know interest in understanding the root causes of the conflict.
The civil war in Yemen began in 2014, around the time America was meddling in Ukrainian politics, while three American administrations (Obama, Trump, Biden) have funded the slaughter of large numbers of women and children. Hundreds of thousands have been killed directly and indirectly from the war, according to United Nations estimates.
Andi Olluri noted for Covert Action Magazine that estimates suggest 20 million Yemenis are facing severe starvation and malaria.
“During the last couple of months alone, the U.S. has provided Saudi Arabia with more than $1 billion in missiles and service of their attack helicopters—all to keep the bombardments running at its impressive current rate, killing at least 20,000 civilians, according to an expert UN panel,” Olluri wrote.
Ahmed Abdulkareem wrote for Mint Press News: “Since 2015, Saudi-led Coalition warplanes have pounded Yemen with over 266,000 airstrikes, according to the Yemeni Army Operations Room, which records airstrikes against civilian and military targets. Seventy percent of those strikes have hit civilian targets. The rising smoke, rubble and flames now seen in Ukraine have been the status quo in Yemen for years, with Western media often deeming the images that appear on local Yemeni television stations, of parents pulling pieces of their children out from the rubble of their homes or schools, too graphic to display.”
And Congress, which is the only branch that has the Constitutional authority to declare war, was never briefed on why America is involved in this conflict. Years after the American taxpayers were forced to fund the wealthy Saudis Arabian thug regime, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) said in a 2017 committee meeting that “I still have not been told why we went to Yemen.”
“Someone’s got to make the decision,” Paul said. “Did we in killing a few of the Al-Qaeda in that village, was that worth the fact that we had to kill women and children, or women and children were inadvertently killed in that including an American citizen?”
Noting this double standard by the brainwashed masses doesn’t negate the fact that there are civilians in Ukraine suffering. There definitely are. By the way, as Olluri noted in his piece, it includes those in Eastern Ukraine who have seen a slaughter by Zelenskyy for years. And those thirsty for blood warmongering us into the next world war, you’re egging on the continued suffering of those civilians.
And you’re setting up America for the blowback, which Ron Paul thoroughly described during his 2008 presidential run, that is to come because of America’s hubris of thinking we get to control nation’s that you claim are sovereign, when in fact, they’re controlled by puppet governments. And the blowback for our intervention in Ukraine just may be the end of the U.S. dollar.
Jacob Hornberger also described blowback from government actions here and abroad, specifically the blowback generated by the war criminal Bill Clinton, in a 2010 piece:
“Which brings us back to the point: When government does horrific things to people, such as what Clinton did to the Branch Davidians at Waco and to the children in Iraq, there are usually going to be people with violent propensities who are driven to retaliate.”
“The solution? Not more sweet op-eds praising freedom of speech and condemning violence, especially from the likes of Bill Clinton. The solution is: Stop the U.S. government from killing innocent children and others with attacks, sanctions, embargoes, invasions, occupations, and foreign aid. Otherwise, be prepared for the worst.”
We’ve ignored the advice from the Founding Fathers, like that given by George Washington in his farewell address or Thomas Jefferson who said: “Peace, commerce and honest friendship with all nations; entangling alliances with none.”
And it should be noted that recognizing that foreign conflicts are not our fight is not isolationism. Unfortunately, that tired old line used to attack the likes of Ron Paul in 2008 is still echoed by the arrogant, narcissistic neocon class today. Promoting a foreign policy of peace and trade is the opposite of isolationism. Promotion of toppling regimes and installing your own puppets is the opposite of promoting freedom around the world.
And let’s not forget, wartime is always the greatest excuse for government to destroy our liberties at home. By the way, America has been at war for at least 93% of it’s existence.
